Virtual Instructions for 2A

Hi Everyone!

As we get ready to embark on our week of virtual learning I wanted to provide this blog with a few instructions and information you may need.

Firstly, please make sure that you are signed up for ALL of your child’s Google classrooms.  This includes all of their specials such as gym, music, etc.

In the morning students should be logged into our Google classroom by 8:15.  You may do so by signing into your student email account and then going to the Google Apps (the nine squares at the top right of the Google Search page).  Then click on Ms. Saldana’s Google Classroom.  Once that home page is opened you will find the link for the Google Meet underneath our class code which is located under my name.  You will automatically be directed to my classroom.  It will not work however if you do not join my Google classroom.  In case you need the code again it is hc6dsvd.

The students will remain in my class for art as well as all of our subjects only joining our specials class when it is their designated special time.  Students are expected to remain in class until 12pm.

I will be sending all of the students who are here in our classroom with pages from the text books that we will be covering and home with packets of work as well.  They are expected to return all of the completed work with me when we return from break.  My virtual friends will keep doing what they normally do and use their textbooks at home and download and print the things I post.  I may post some assignments on the Google classroom so also please ensure that we check it frequently.  If you have any questions please feel free to email me or message me on the Remind App.

Warm Regards,

Ms. Saldana

Just a few things…

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Just a few things…

  • A reminder that this Wednesday school will be closed for professional development.
  • I sent a link with the new code for IXL to each of the students emails.  Please log in and make sure that there are not any issues before I begin assigning homework on the site.  If there are any technical difficulties please let me know so that I can resolve them.
  • I have also posted a link to a website we use in class to help the students practice their math facts on Google classroom.  The students can practice whenever they would like and I would like them to practice at least three times a week.
  • Another reminder that The Sacred Heart Trunk or Treat is this Friday from 6-9pm!

I am looking forward to another awesome week!

A Few Important Things…

Dear Parents,

On Friday, in honor of Johnny Appleseed Day (Observed) we will be doing a special math lesson involving apples.  The students will use the apples in a math lesson that will involve them to chart their favorite apple.  In this lesson students will be taste testing three different apple flavors (Green, Red, Yellow) and then will vote on their favorite apple based off of their taste.  I will be providing the class with the apples and I will take every precaution to clean them, cut them using gloves and provide each student with their own personal baggy to ensure that they are safe for the students to eat. I do understand that you may have some concerns and if you would like to send your student in with their own apples that is completely fine as well, just please let me know via the Remind App so I know how many apples I need to buy.

Book it- Some of you are familiar with the Book It program that is available through Pizza Hut, but for those of you who are not it is a program in which students can earn FREE personal pizzas through Pizza Hut if they read and record their 2o minutes daily.    I have registered our class again this year as it works as a terrific incentive, however this year they changed it a little bit.  This year they will email the certificates instead of me giving them out.  Tomorrow I will send home the students with their slip in which you can use to register the students.

Scholastic Book Club- Scholastic usually sends me catalogs for the book club however I have yet to receive them for this month.  I am attaching the link in which you can shop for the books in our class as well as posting the code here if anyone would like to order.  Orders must be submitted by September 31st.

Some things…

Hi Everyone!

So we are off to great start!  Thank you all again for being so patient during this time of adjustment…I do believe we are getting better each day!  Just a few reminders:

Please send in $1 for the seat sack if you have not already…it is important for the children to have more storage this year as they are unable to move about the room as freely.  Also if you could please send your child in with a book each day for them to read that would be great…they are unable to use my classroom library fully because I have to disinfect the books each time someone uses it.  For my virtual friends I realize as we go some of the things that you will need readily available: a notebook to write in for journal’s, a dry erase board so that you may participate in phonics and some math lessons, and your textbooks and workbooks accessible.  I have also posted the schedule below so that you may see our specials and subject time slots.  I can email this to you as well if the image is too blurry.

The final thing I want to tell you is that I have downloaded and signed our class up for the REMIND app.  This will allow me to communicate with you right to your phones.  If you could please download the app in the app store and then add our class using the following code that would be great!  I am trying this out to see if it will help us communicate better <3

Remind class code: gc26akb

You may actually text the number 81010 and send them that code!  It should take you right to the following step.

Again I am looking forward to this year…they are a terrific class!

First Day Updates!

Hi Everyone!

So we officially made it through the first full day of school and our first day of Virtual Learning!  Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding it is greatly appreciated.  If everyone can please use the code below to register for my classroom by tomorrow that would be great.  This is especially important for our virtual learners as it has the Google Meet information listed for everyone to join.  I also posted the math review packet that we are working on for those who do not have it.

I will also post our schedule tomorrow as there was a slight change made today that I need to fix.  Monday’s and Wednesday’s however are gym days so please make sure they are wearing the appropriate clothing.  I have also noticed that the children are consuming tons of water and we are unable to use the water fountain so you may want to consider sending an extra water bottle in for them to refill.

And finally I am still missing some communication forms, emergency cards and money for the seat sack and other supplies.  Please make sure that you send those items in by Thursday.  Thank you again for all of your continued patience I know we are going to have a great year!

Google Classroom Code:

Virtual Update and Google classroom update

First I just want to say thank you for being so patient!  I am working on some of the hiccups that we are experiencing and I just may have solved at least of one of the issues.  Below I am posting my google classroom updated code.  Please join this class immediately and then the Google Meet link will remain there so that if you get kicked out you can jump right back in.  I am also trying to hard wire the internet to alleviate the wifi issues.

Technical Difficulties

I apologize for the delay but it appears the meeting does not want to work.  I switched the internet to my optimum wifi and I am hoping that will work however it then cancelled my meeting.  Please try this link:

Welcome Back!

Gardner Edgerton School District 231

Dear Parents,

I cannot believe the first day of school is just a few days away!  I am very excited to have each and every one of your children in my class and I am looking forward to getting to know them (and you as well).  I know this will be a terrific school year despite the challenges we are all facing!

Before the first day there are a few things that I would like to go over:

First, just a reminder that the first day of school is Wednesday, September 9th and all of the days are half days so we will be following the half day dismissal schedule.

Secondly, on the first day of school I will be sending home with your students a form which will help me collect important information from you, the parents, so I ask that you please fill that out and send back to school the following day.

Third, I am ordering each of my students a seat sack so they may store things such as books or other classroom supplies on the backs of their chairs.  Since we will have limited movement around the classroom students will be asked to store more of their things in their desks and will not have enough room.  I ask that each student bring in a dollar for the seat sack the first day to help offset the cost of this item.

Again I am looking very much forward to this school year and I cannot wait to see you all on Wednesday!

Enjoy your weekend,

Ms. Saldana
