Good Morning!

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer break! However, we do need to stay on top of what we learned last year in order to be prepared for September. With that said, Mrs. Canal and I have assigned some IXL summer work. It is not overwhelming, but we do expect you to spend some time practicing. If you receive our emails, you will be notified of the assignment. If not, please make sure you check our blogs today, July 13th, July 27th, and August 10th. If you have completed these assignments because you are spending time on your own practicing, you do not have to repeat them. However, continue working in other areas and your time will be counted as your “extra credit” grade. Please know that Mrs. Canal and I will be checking your progress midway through each assignment and on the due date to ensure that you are using your time wisely.

Also, every student in Grades 5-8 were to choose a book to read this summer. It is very important that you continue to read at least 30 minutes per day. Reading is a very portable endeavor, so it’s easy to take out into the yard, in the car, on vacation, or at home. Although I am a book “purist” and love the feel of an actual book in my hand, it’s perfectly acceptable to use technology as well. Please try to challenge yourself and read at, or slightly above, your grade/age level.  Do not “reread” books from last year as they will not challenge your ability to comprehend more difficult text. Take your time and enjoy the process. Reading can transport you to different places, time periods, and on fascinating adventures. Find something that interests you and go for it!

Father, Creator of all, thank you for Summer!

Thank you for the warmth of the sun and increased daylight.

Thank you for the beauty I see all around me and for the opportunity to be outside and enjoy your creation.

Thank you for the increased time I have to be with my friends and family, and for the more casual pace of the summer season.

Draw me closer to you this summer.

Teach me how I can pray no matter where I am or what I am doing.

Warm my soul with the awareness of your presence and light my path with your word and counsel.

As I enjoy your creation, create in me a pure heart and a hunger and a thirst for you.
