Summer updates and resources

I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer break!  You still have time to try new things, go swim, hike, or do something outdoors!  Enjoy the beauty of nature!  Watch a sunrise at the shore or a sunset on mountaintop.  Sit back and enjoy the wonder and power of a thunderstorm as it rolls in (but be inside by the time it hits).  Hang up a hammock between two trees, get lost in a book and take the occasional nap.  Parents, remember to try some of these too!

As the school year approaches, look at the summer resource center (http://www.sacredheartlynd.org/school/summer-resource-center/) for supply lists.  Remember to be prepared for math classes as you enter in the doors in (exactly) one month!

Those of you who count yourselves amongst 7th graders, here are the homeroom supplies:

  • 2 boxes of tissues
  • 1 roll of paper towels
  • 1 container of hand wipes
  • 1 container of disinfecting wipes
  • 1 pack of loose leaf (I prefer college ruled but will take whatever comes in)

For those who will join me in another quest for knowledge this year, here are the class supplies:

  • 7th-8th grade math
    • 3 one-subject notebooks (one per trimester)
    • 1 folder
    • pencils (wooden with sharpener or mechanical)
    • 1 extra large book sock
  • 7th grade science
    • 3 one-subject notebooks (one per trimester)
    • 1 folder
    • pens (blue or black) and pencils (wooden with sharpener or mechanical)
    • 1 large book sock
  • 8th grade religion
    • 1- one-subject notebooks
    • 1- folder
    • pens (blue or black)
  • In general, make sure you have a pencil case to carry your plethora of pens and pencils

Finally, look out for updates on fall math competitions!  We have requested to host in late October for both Mathleague Elementary (3rd-6th grades) and Middle school (6th-8th grades), tentatively 22nd and 24th respectively.  We also have the Bergen County Academies Holbrook competition (4th-8th grades, https://holbrook.bergen.org/info.php) on October 13th, and we will have the iLearn Math Contest in Princeton, probably the first weekend in November (6th-8th grades).  If you are interested in any or all of these, let me know.  We will have more info in September, but it’s not too early to start prepping!
